Description

Local Council Newe Ephrayim (Monosson), is situated in the east side of Gush Dan, east to Tel Aviv. It was established in 1955 and got 3,000 inh. I spotted a flag on the city hall, greyish light blue background with emblem surrounded with blue and white rectangles. Inscription in Hebrew (above the emblem) and English (below) inside the inner rectangle. The flag is the same on both sides. The municipal emblem was published in the official gazette (Rashumot, Yalkut ha-Pirsumim), YP 1795, 13 January 1972. Source: author's own observation, 19 September 2001; local council website.

This community was established by Mr. Monosson's company and was known first as Newe Monosson, later to be changed to "Newe Ephrayim (Monosson)". This local council was abolished on August 5, 2003 and is now part of the Municipality of Yehud. Its local council was demoted to Local Committee, so I expect that the former Local Council flag will be in future use as the Local Committee flag.

It was founded by an American, Fred (Ephrayim) Monoson as a residential area for his friends that work at the nearby Lod (now Ben Gurion Int'l) airport..
According to the list of united or dissolved local authorities published in the official gazette (Rashumot), section Sefer HaHukim 1897, 5 August 2003, Municipality of Yehud and Local Council Newe Ephrayim (Monosson) are united into Municipality of Yehud-Monosson.

The new emblem of Newe Monosson can be seen at <he.wikipedia.org>. There was no intention to change the emblem, but only to give him "modern" look. Designing the renewed emblem and the graphics were made in December 2003 by Mrs. Orit Ezrah, resident of Newe Monosso, following a request by rhe Local Administration. The flag is still using the previous emblem, and it still in use: Dark blue emblem on light blue background with the inscription Neve Ephrayim (Monosson) above the rainbow.
The emblem represent a settlement of houses that attached to the ground, a flowering garden. (in the past, the settlement motto was: Newe Ephraim Monosson - a flowering garden).
By the way, the word "Ephraim" was removed from the local authority name according to Municipalities Regulations (Municipal Quarter - Newe Monosson), 5766-2006, and the official name of the Local Administration according to this regulations is "Newe Monosson", following the Local Administration request. However, catographic speaking, the name is still Newe Ephrayim.
