About the Flag

It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a green and white quartered field.

Coat of arms

[Bordeira commune CoA] image by Sérgio Horta, 24 Dec 2010

The arms are Argent a harrow Sable nailed Argent between two stone pines Vert fructed Or trunked and eradicated Sable, in chief an osprey volant Proper holding a fish Gules, in base two barrulets wavy Vert. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BORDEIRA".
Meaning:
Albeit blazoned proper, the osprey is shown as golden/brown in Sérgio Horta's image. The last surviving breeding pair of osprey in Portugal nested in Bordeira cliffs and went extinct in 1996. (Also the fish shows golden/brown in Sérgio Horta's image, instead of red. I dont know if he was distracted the day he draw this, or, more likely, the authoritative image he took the colouring from disagrees with the text.)
António Martins-Tuválkin, 24 Dec 2010

Flag and arms adopted and published in the official journal Diário da República: III Série on 26 February 1993
