Neustadt/Dosse is a small city (3,600 inhabitants) in Ostprignitz-Ruppin.
The flag, introduced in 1993, is red-white-blue with the arms. Source:
Günther 1995. The beasts on the coat of
arms are quite unusual for a city in Brandenburg: a lion striped white
and red (like on the arms of Hesse), and an elk
(!), probably unique in German civic heraldry. Bensing
et al. 1984 explains their origin as follows. The arms were granted
in the 17th century by the count of Hesse-Homburg
who owned the land at that time. The count had a Swedish wife, and to the
honour of her country the elk was included.
